A self-professed “professional dieter,” Scott of Michigan had been overweight his entire life and experimented with every diet under the sun. Convinced Isagenix® was going to be just another “quick fix” like past diets he had tried, he initially wanted no part of it.
All of that changed, however, after a series of frightening wake-up calls. He lost his mother, who’d also battled a lifelong struggle with obesity, was medically disqualified from his 20-year career as a truck driver and his family history of health problems was haunting him.
“I was in such agony, just waiting for the hammer to fall,” confesses 46-year-old Scott.
He began to take serious inventory of his life, remembering the words of Albert Einstein who said “the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.” Realizing he could no longer ignore his health and weight issues, Scott called his friend and said he was ready to try Isagenix.
While he was thrilled to have started the journey to a healthier life, Scott also knew he needed something more to keep him focused and accountable so he signed up for the 2008 IsaBody Challenge™. He decided to take his goals to another level and turned to helping his friend Brian, a local firefighter who was battling leukemia and couldn’t afford his medical bills. Scott decided to raise money for his friend through a “pound-a-thon.” He solicited pledges for every pound he lost and announced his goal to his entire town through the local newspaper.
“It gave me another deeper level of commitment, keeping my feet to the fire,” shares Scott. “It felt so good.”
Along with following an Isagenix system, Scott started exercising daily through 15-mile bike rides, 45 minutes of cardio, swimming or weight training. He also set a personal goal to be in the 100-Pound Club before attending 2008 Celebration.
By the end of the Challenge, Scott had lost 82 pounds, 76 inches and 12 pant sizes.* Just three hours prior to boarding the plane to attend Celebration, he proudly weighed in at 247 pounds, overjoyed to have reached just beyond his goal, losing a total of 101 pounds.*
Awarded second place in the Challenge, Scott says the journey has been worth every tough moment – especially because he raised money for a friend in need. Scott says he is humbled by the generosity of those who contributed and outpouring of support has meant the world to Brian and his family.
“Thanks to Isagenix, I’ve gotten my life back, but there are others who need my help,” shares Scott, who’s building his Isagenix business. “I really want to learn how to reach people and help them be more receptive. I don’t want anyone to go through what I did.”
